MARCA DE AGUA

Desecho, extracción, desvío

Fotografía estenopeica

2018

WATERMARK

Disposal, extraction, detour

Pinhole photography

2018

Water, its absence and its presence in the landscape, is an essential theme in my work. This arises from the restlessness in the use of experimental procedures in photography and the use of the pinhole camera as a means to represent the landscape. This is how I make known the environmental problems that exist in the places I live.

Watermark was born from the research on the deterioration of the Batuco Wetland. I seek to show the damage present in the place by means of the intervention of the images made, I modify the processes during the taking of the photographic roll and damage the resulting negative manually. With these procedures I show the identity of the landscape and the non-visible state of the territory.

Disposal shows the immaculate image of the Batuco wetland, covered with water in July 2017. This is constantly affected by waste from the adjacent sewage plant, represented by small scratches made on a negative to almost completely cover the area. Negative I seek to break the neatness of this and dismantle the immaculate landscape, I eliminate a primordial element of the scene leaving a gap in the "original". When it is scanned, this vacuum becomes a stain, which seems to have added an external element to the surface.

Extraction is captured advancing in a straight line from the drier place of the lagoon towards the water boundary, the whole area showing the earth and vegetation that remains when the place dries is observed. The image seeks to demonstrate the extraction of clays from the subsoils of the wetland, which increase its depth and reduce its diametral expansion. It shows the passage of time in an image of 7 frames taken with the pinhole camera that form a horizontal image. This can be seen as a panorama, but in reality each image is taken advancing a few steps forward between each shot. The first images of the left side show the vegetation that has appeared in the place when it has been a few months since the water dried, as the images advance the place with cracks, recently dry, in the last part of the image, on the right, you can see the water limit. It shows in a single image the states that presents the place of study with the passage of the seasons, the change of climate and the deterioration by the use of its waters. , which has generated damage in the southern area of the water mirror, which to this day has not been able to recover. There almost no vegetation or fauna is observed. On the other hand, this company is located right on the edge of the water mirror

Detour, shows the gradual deterioration of a natural landscape, where the deviation of water from the wetland constantly occurs for its use in irrigation and private consumption at the cost of the drought of the lagoon. I show it with an image of double analogous exposure, where you can see the lagoon with its pristine landscape and above it the ground from which the image is taken, showing the land completely dry. I refer to the duality that the territory presents, the wet and the dry in a single image, as evidence of deterioration.
